‘A passion for cultivating a meaningful life through the creation of healing rituals is the cornerstone of Ayurvedic healing & the Rasasara Skinfood product. The use of only sattvic edible, natural ingredients & consciousness are our enablers.'

Sonia Lloyd, creator of the Rasasara Ayurvedic Skincare range

The science behind Rasasara's  natural skincare system is ‘Ayurveda' a science of life, longevity & healing that originated in India some 5000 years ago.

We at Rasasara were drawn to Ayurvedic philosophy because of its awareness of the quality of *sāttvika - we aspire to become sāttvika ourselves & create a world that is sāttvika -  'heaven on earth'.

*For an object or food to be sāttvika it must be uncontaminated and should not spread evil or disease in the world. On the contrary its presence must purify the surroundings. Thus when an individual consumes such a food, he must feel that he is eating pure food. The food should be healthy, nutritious and clean. It should also not weaken the power or equilibrium of mind. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sattvika

When looking at the cosmetic industry we felt that what it offered was the opposite of sāttvika & that it was up to us, & people like us to make greater efforts to challenge mainstream & mistaken ideas about how to care or alternatively ‘not care' for our body & skin.

Through combining the wisdom of Ayurveda & the healing power of natural whole foods & herbs we created the Rasasara range of natural ‘Ayurvedic Skincare' products. Rasasara is a Sanskrit word that translates as ‘the cream which rises to the top' - it is the by-product of all that we consume both orally & through our skin dermis. Everything we consume is metabolized & transformed into plasma, blood, muscle, fat, bone, bone marrow & reproductive tissue & of course the bodies largest organ the skin. ‘Rasasara is the quality of the skin, which rises to the top' & the skin is the ‘cream' which is like a mirror that reflects what's going on deep within the body.

We see Rasasara skin & body care products as nourishing, healing ‘skinfoods' - so called because they feed & nourish the skin, & everything in between - from the plasma to the more gross muscle tissue, back to what Ayurveda calls ‘the Self or consciousness'.

The skin is the bodies' largest organ & second brain, it is the organ most exposed to the elements. Knowing this it makes perfect sense that we would take care of it.

The Ayurvedic awareness of the divinity that resides in all beings & that to care for the Self via the skin is not vain or cosmetic, but instead an essential act of loving kindness directed towards the 'Self', supports this essential knowledge.

Rasasara's products are made in Surrey Hills, Melbourne, Australia. Our sāttvika ideals are present throughout their preparation as ultimately our intension to live a sattvic lifestyle is only realized, by living it! The testimonials we receive are proof that we are clearly cultivating a very positive, pure & joyous work place; they in turn inspire the goodness in what we offer.

Naturally Rasasara products are packaged with their biodegradability & the earths eology in mind. As the business grows we will continue to seek out newer ecological methods of packaging. Currently we use PET recycled plastic, we store all our cold pressed oils in glass, all our paper products are recycled & printed with non toxic inks & washed with benign press chemicals & we don't over package with unnecessary boxes. Our greatest aim is to deliver you a sattvic product, steeped with 'ahimsa' - ( sanskrit for non - violence or cruelty to other beings) & free from 'ama' (toxins) that create bodily weakness; ie. synthetic fragrances which aggravate the *dosha's; petrochemicals which are now known carcinogens (as in cancer causing) & sulphates which harm us & all marine & plant life. The end result is a natural product that doesn't harm you or the environment, but instead supports you & your environment; & an act as simple as washing ones face is transformed, becoming a holy & powerful force of healing in the world, complete with sāttvika consciousness.

*Dosha means "that which changes."

Dosha is a word derived from its root 'dus', which is equivalent to the English prefix 'dys', such as in dysfunction, dystrophy, etc. In this sense, dosha can be regarded as a fault, mistake, error, or a transgression against the cosmic rhythm. The doshas are constantly moving in dynamic balance, one with the others. Doshas are required for the life to happen. In Ayurveda, dosha is also known as the governing principle, as every living thing in nature is characterized by the dosha. The three active doshas are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. www.holisticonline.com/ayurveda

‘At the heart of Rasasara's divine application is the intention to promote wellness, long life and ageless beauty.' Sonia Lloyd, creator of the Rasasara Ayurvedic Skincare range

Palm Oil Origins

When we began making the cleansing bars 5 years ago we were assured by Australian Botanical Products (ABP) that their Palm Oil was sourced from sustainable plantations - recently they released the following statement:

"We have recently received many requests about the origin of our Palm Oil, Palm Oil Organic and Ecol Soaps and Powders.

All of our Palm Oil is sourced from Malaysia. We have been dealing with Palm oil and Palm oil products for over 20 years, with the source of our supply being legal plantations in Malaysia.

Palm is a renewable and important resource, however in some areas, such as Kalimantan, Indonesia illegal plantations are being grown and Orang-utans pushed out of their native forests as the land is cleared. We do not use any Indonesian Palm oil.

While we do not agree with the denaturing of the forests and the loss of Orang-utan habitats, we do support the rights of small local industry and farmers to make a living when following legal, responsible and monitored farming practices. It is quite possible that the amount of negative publicity surrounding Palm Oil will stop the production of a valuable resource that legally supports many families and communities throughout Malaysia.

Australian Botanical Products offer a variety of Palm oils and products, including Australian Certified Organic Palm oils which are subject to the most stringent environmental checks. The Ecol range of soaps and soap powders are also made from Malaysian Palm oil."

At Rasasara we are committed to preserving and protecting life - if you have any information that is contrary to this please dont hesitate to contact us & inform us.
